October 2026 Astrology: Spooky Season’s Intense Start

October is supposed to be spooky! Horror movies, costume parties, freaks coming out at night, all the clichés! But this year, the first week of October feels like a haunted house all on its own, and it’s time for a lot of us to face the skeletons in our closets.

The astrology from October 2 through October 6 is concentrated with speed, transformation, and change. Mercury is making hard aspects to Mars and Pluto, Venus stations retrograde in Scorpio, Mars opposes Pluto, the Sun opposes Saturn, and then Mercury meets Venus retrograde in Scorpio. Translation: people are going to have feelings, people are going to have opinions, and some of those variables are going to shake the table in a very real way.

The common thread is Scorpio and Pluto: secrecy, power, control, obsession, intimacy, money, resentment, vulnerability, and the uncomfortable realization that something you’ve been trying not to look at is still there. This isn’t necessarily a week of disaster, but rather a week where pretending everything is fine may become considerably harder.

October 2: Mercury Square Mars

The week opens with Mercury square Mars, which is basically the astrological equivalent of telling everyone to think before they speak and then immediately removing the filter. Mercury rules communication, information, decisions, and thought, while Mars rules anger, action, confrontation, and impulse. When they clash, conversations can become arguments very quickly.

With Mercury in Scorpio and Mars in Leo, there’s an especially strong potential for pride to get involved. Someone wants an answer. Someone wants to be understood. Someone wants to prove that they’re right; someone else is offended that they were questioned in the first place. This isn’t the best energy for firing off the paragraph you’ve been drafting in your Notes app for three days.

Practically, expect people to be more reactive than usual. Small disagreements can become surprisingly personal, and a conversation about one thing can suddenly turn into a conversation about everything that has ever happened. Pause before responding. Ask the actual question instead of the accusatory version of the question.

And if you’re angry enough that you’re imagining the perfect comeback while brushing your teeth, wait. You’ll probably be glad you did.

October 2: Mercury Square Pluto

Then Mercury immediately runs into Pluto, which is where things get considerably more interesting. Mercury square Pluto is investigative. It wants the missing information; it wants the real story; it wants to know what someone meant, what they left out, why they suddenly changed their behavior, and what happened in that conversation three weeks ago that you’re now convinced was significant.

This can be useful, but it can also make you insane. You may find yourself rereading old messages, stalking social media, researching something beyond the point of diminishing returns, or trying to decode a sentence that probably didn’t require decoding.

There’s also a darker side to this transit: information can become a weapon. Someone may withhold information to maintain control; another may use something you told them privately against you — conversations can become less about understanding and more about winning.

The practical rule is to investigate without inventing. If something doesn’t add up, ask about it. If there’s evidence, deal with the evidence. But don’t turn an unanswered question into a fully developed theory simply because your brain hates uncertainty. Scorpio wants the truth, Pluto wants the motive underneath the truth.

October 3: Venus Stations Retrograde in Scorpio

Then Venus retrograde begins at 8° Scorpio, and suddenly the subject matter gets considerably more personal. Venus governs relationships, attraction, pleasure, money, values, and what we’re willing to exchange with other people. Scorpio brings in intimacy, trust, jealousy, shared resources, attachment, power, and all the things people tend to discuss only after midnight.

Venus retrograde in Scorpio is less interested in asking whether you like someone and much more interested in asking why. Are you actually attracted to this person, or are you attached to the intensity? Do you trust them, or are you constantly monitoring them because you don’t? Are you staying because the relationship is healthy, or because leaving would force you to admit something you don’t want to admit? And, perhaps most importantly, are you confusing emotional depth with emotional chaos?

This can also bring money issues to the surface. Shared expenses, debts, financial dependencies, subscriptions, investments, or arrangements that seemed fine when you made them may suddenly require renegotiation. Old relationships can resurface. Old feelings and patterns can resurface, but that doesn’t automatically mean you should resurrect the past. Sometimes something comes back because you’re finally in a position to understand why you left it there.

October 3: Mars Opposite Pluto

If October 2 is argumentative, October 3 can be downright territorial. Mars opposite Pluto is a power-struggle transit at its core. Mars wants to act. Pluto wants control. Put them opposite each other, and suddenly nobody wants to be the person who backs down.

This can show up in relationships, workplaces, family dynamics, social situations, or even entirely internal battles. Someone wants recognition, maybe control. Someone feels ignored and decides they’re done being ignored. And because Mars is in Leo while Pluto is in Aquarius, there’s an especially obvious tension between personal pride and the larger group.

You may notice people becoming more sensitive to disrespect, exclusion, rejection, or anything that makes them feel powerless. The important thing is not to confuse escalation with resolution. You can win an argument and still make your life worse. You can prove your point and still damage the relationship. You can get the last word and still be completely exhausted.

If something starts feeling like a power struggle, ask yourself whether you actually need to participate. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is stop supplying the conflict with energy.

October 4: The Sun Opposes Saturn

After two days of arguments, investigations, relationship questions, and power struggles, the Sun opposite Saturn arrives like someone turning the lights on, and those lights are fluorescent. This can be a sobering wake-up call or divine reality check.

The Sun represents identity, confidence, visibility, and direction, while Saturn represents responsibility, limits, consequences, and reality. This transit tends to make the practical situation impossible to ignore. You may have to deal with a deadline, a financial obligation, a professional responsibility, a relationship boundary, or a decision you’ve been postponing. Something may simply take longer than you want it to.

This can feel frustrating because the rest of the week is so emotionally intense. But Saturn has no interest in emotional theatrics. It wants to know what the actual problem is, what your responsibility is, and what you’re going to do about it.

If you’ve been overcommitting, you may need to admit it. If you’ve been avoiding a conversation, you may need to have it. If you’ve been spending money you don’t actually have, the numbers may become impossible to ignore. Most importantly, if you’ve been tolerating something because changing it seemed inconvenient, you may finally realize that continuing is more inconvenient.

October 6: Mercury Conjunct Venus Retrograde in Scorpio

By October 6, Mercury meets Venus retrograde in Scorpio, bringing the entire week’s themes back to communication. This is where the conversation happens. Maybe you finally say what you’ve been thinking. Perhaps someone tells you something you didn’t know. An old relationship resurfaces. Maybe you have a conversation about money. You may finally ask the question you’ve been avoiding because you already know you might not like the answer.

This transit can be productive because Mercury gives language to what Venus retrograde has been forcing you to reconsider. The important thing is that the conversation may reveal what the situation is actually about — a disagreement about texting might actually be about trust, or an argument about money might actually be about control. The relationship problems you’ve been having might actually be about resentment, or a sudden obsession with someone’s behavior might actually be about your own fear of being rejected.

That’s the very Scorpio quality of this week: the surface issue isn’t always the real issue.

So, Yes, October Is Spooky

The first week of October isn’t necessarily scary because it implies something terrible is going to happen, but it will be scary to those who prefer to brush things under the rug or avoid the elephant in the room because information has a way of becoming much more interesting when you’ve been avoiding it.

This is the kind of week where someone says something they probably should have kept to themselves, where an old text suddenly makes sense, where a financial arrangement needs to be reconsidered, where a relationship dynamic becomes obvious, or where you realize you’ve been calling something “complicated” because admitting what you actually want would require you to do something about it.

That’s the Scorpio/Pluto combination at its most useful — it doesn’t care about appearances nearly as much as it cares about what’s actually happening, and facing it head-on.

So if the first week of October feels a little intense, resist the urge to immediately fix, expose, confront, investigate, confess, quit, block, unblock, or send the paragraph. Take a breath, get the facts, process them, and have the conversation when you’re calm enough to hear the answer. Remember that not every uncomfortable truth requires an immediate reaction — sometimes the scariest part is realizing you finally see something clearly, but laying it all out on the table can be the very thing to liberate you.
