Welcome to your monthly new moon ritual with intuitive astrologer Meghan Rose. Each month, I share a ritual here on Horoscope.com to help you work with the current astrology, set intentions, and bring what you’re dreaming about into your everyday life.
November’s new moon arrives in Scorpio on November 8 PST / 9 EST, and it’s asking us to channel our rage, frustration, fears, and self-doubt into power. Scorpio is a fixed water sign, meaning that although this new moon will heighten our psychic abilities and bring up a lot of feelings, it’s also grounding and requires consistency and intention to harness its full power.
With both the sun and moon in Scorpio, our ability to alchemize our feelings into fuel becomes our greatest superpower. I’d like to share a ritual with you that will turn this from a concept into a real, tangible change in your life. Scorpio is the great alchemist of the zodiac, so whatever you’re entering into this month carrying around like a heavy weight has the potential to become feather-light, and maybe even enjoyable by the time November ends!
Scorpio is traditionally ruled by Mars, the planet of action, aggression, forward momentum, and passion. Mars is currently in the sign of Leo, and this helps us to understand where we are shifting our energy: from heavy, dense, and intense into bright, joyous, and confident.
For this month’s ritual, I want you to get two pieces of paper and a pen, a terracotta plant pot, some soil or dirt, and a plant of your choosing (something easy like a basil plant or marigolds, or whatever you’d like).
Then, with your two pieces of paper and pen handy, let’s take a few minutes to unplug, deepen your breath, and close your eyes. After nine rounds of deep inhales and exhales, or once you feel grounded and safe, take out your first piece of paper and write out the following:
Now, you have nine heavy things to face on November 9. But on a separate piece of paper, I want you to write out:
Now, you have a list of nine things that are much lighter and rooted in joy and passion. Take the first list and either light it on fire in a fire-safe bowl (alternatively, you can rip it and either flush it or throw it away, whichever feels aligned for you to “dispose”). Then, with your second list, I want you to take the paper and fold it in half three times toward yourself.
Once you have this second piece of paper with your light and passion-led information folded, grab your pot, your soil, and your plant. Take the paper and place it on the bottom of the pot, then fill the pot about halfway with soil before placing your plant inside. Finish off another ¼ of the pot’s space with soil and place it in the appropriate sunlit space in your home, office, or room.
Once a month has gone by, and you’ve either enjoyed your plant or watched it grow, I want you to remember that alchemizing your heaviness and turning it into something alive, thriving, and fruitful is always abundantly available to you. You do not need to ignore your heaviness in order for it to eventually benefit you. Instead, acknowledging and sitting with what’s weighing you down is often the only way that we can eventually make space for what lights us up to arrive or be experienced in the present moment.
Set a reminder to come back here for our new moon in Sagittarius on December 8 for your next new moon ritual!
Scorpio sits opposite to Taurus on the zodiac wheel. They represent the pull between comfort and discomfort, how necessary both energies are as we cycle through life. Rest and action. Growing through stability (Taurus) or pressure (Scorpio).
Each time that you allow yourself to do the uncomfortable thing that you know brings you closer to your goals, you’re honoring Scorpio energy.
This new moon offers a chance to move beyond stagnation, fear, and self-doubt into a light and excited energy that helps you achieve your goals and desires with ease. Maybe even some fun!
Venus and Mercury retrograde are both still with us until November 13. Venus retrograde in Libra is showing us the patterns and beliefs we have that are keeping us making the same old mistakes. This ritual gives us a chance to see and feel what’s too heavy to carry forward and to alchemize it into something more enjoyable!
Mercury retrograde in Scorpio, on the other hand, is showing us where we’re hiding our deepest thoughts and beliefs, maybe even pretending they don’t exist at all. Again, this ritual is meant to remind us that ignoring what holds us back or hurts us is not going to make it go away. In fact, bringing it all up to the surface is the only way to rework it.
I hope this ritual leaves you feeling confident, empowered, and more attuned to yourself and the world around you! Be sure to check back next month for your new moon in Sagittarius ritual.
